How Does Permanent Makeup Work?

If you’re considering permanent makeup, you probably have some questions about it.

Are there different color palettes to choose from? How is the permanent makeup applied? How long is “permanent,” anyway?

Here at Escape Skin & Body, we love these questions because it shows you are as serious about your appearance as we are!

To assure that you have true to light color, our Cosmetic Tattooist Kelly uses full spectrum lighting, which most closely represents natural daylight. Plus, she always recommends a conservative approach when choosing color because it’s easier to darken permanent makeup later than it is to lighten it.

With a wide assortment of hypoallergenic pigments on hand, the colors you prefer are the only colors Kelly will apply. Do you want a very natural looking enhancement of your eyes and brows? Do you want full eyeliner, top and bottom? What enhancement do you want to apply to your lips?

Kelly will discuss all of this with you so that she has a thorough understanding of what you want.

Using medical strength anesthetics, the treatment is not painful while micro deposits of pigment are applied with a cosmetic tattoo pen. Kelly’s goal is to create a custom designed look according to your personal preference.

Initially, you will find that the color is darker than you wanted. This is temporary. The color will lighten quickly during the first week, then gradually soften and stabilize over the next few weeks.

There will also be some mild swelling, but that’s temporary as well. You may need a follow up appointment to adjust the shape or add color to areas that healed lighter than expected. To keep your look fresh, we recommend a touch up every 4-8 years. That’s it!
