Pre-care

• Cease the use of all Retinol products 48hours prior to the treatment.

During the treatment
A tingling, itching or heat may be experienced on the skin during the treatment. This is due to the active ingredients penetrating and activating in the skin to perform their function.

After treatment

• You may experience mild discomfort, redness and/or flaking of the skin.
• Makeup may be worn immediately following the treatment.
• If you have any concerns following your treatment, please contact the salon.
• You must discontinue use of any ‘treat’ products in your homecare for the next 2 days. This includes products containing AHAs, BHA, Vitamin C and Retinol.
• Ultraceuticals Ultra UV Protective Daily Moisturiser broad spectrum sunscreen must be used daily.
• Avoid waxing, IPL or laser treatments for 2 weeks following the treatment.
• Avoid vigorous exercise or applying excessive heat to the area including saunas, steam baths, hot showers or chlorinated pools for 48hours following your treatment.
• Suggested products to use includes:

  • Ultra B2 Hydrating Serum
  • Ultra Moisturising range
  • Ultra Protective Antioxidant Complex

• It is not necessary to see visible flaking or peeling of the skin following for the peel to have worked.
• Makeup may be worn immediately following the treatment.
• If you have any concerns following your treatment, please contact the Clinic where your skin treatment was performed.
• You must discontinue use of any ‘treat’ products in your homecare for the next 5-7 days. This includes products containing AHAs, BHA, Vitamin C and Retinol.

What is Dermapen™ treatment?
Dermapen is an advanced skin needling technique. Dermapen treatments effectively improve skin rejuvenation, fine lines and wrinkles, stretch marks and a variety of scars. This technology uses multiple needles to vertically pierce the skin. When moved across the surface of your skin it stimulates natural collagen production and creates fine channels within the skin. These channels carry up to 80% more topical nutrients deep into the skin’s fibroblasts to feed the underlying cells found in the dermis and basal layers of the skin.

Is Dermapen™ Painful?
Dermapen uses very fine needles and is relatively comfortable. Minimum needle depths are basically painless, and for depths over 0.5mm a mild topical anaesthetic may be applied by the client prior to visiting the salon. After the treatment the face will show visible redness but there is no downtime and you can easily cover with a breathable foundation and continue with your daily activities.

How does Dermapen™ Skin needling work?
The concept of skin needling is based on the skin’s ability to repair itself whenever it encounters physical damage such as cuts, abrasions and other physical trauma. Immediately after an injury occurs our skin destroys old damaged tissue such as acne scarring and wrinkles and replaces it with new fresh healthy collagen. Skin needling allows for controlled induction of the skin’s self repair mechanism by creating micro “injuries” in the skin which triggers a whole cascade of events that result in new collagen synthesis. The result is smoother, firmer and younger looking skin down the line. A great treatment for all skin types especially clients with acne scarring, enlarged pores and moderate to severe wrinkling.

Skin needling procedures are performed in a safe and precise manner with the use of the sterile Dermapen needle head. The procedure is normally completed within 20 minutes for the entire face and neck and up to 60 minutes for the body depending on the size of the problem area. This is a great treatment for stretch marks and sagging/crepey skin. During the treatment, the practitioner gently moves the DermaPen over the client’s skin to create miniscule sub-cutaneous channels. This is perceived by the body as a “mini wound” which stimulates the release of growth factors that trigger the production of collagen and elastin, which is all part of the healing process. This new fresh collagen remodels over time and thus one can expect moderate skin tightening of the treated area down the line. Sagging skin, stretch marks, pores and acne scars are all improved upon.
When should one start Dermapen™ Skin Needling for anti-ageing?

Dermapen Skin Needling are more effective than ever and treatments should be started sooner when the skin has a much greater ability to rejuvenate. If wrinkles are left and they become ingrained and scar like they are much more difficult to treat. It is also a great idea to start treatments to prevent the dreaded sagging that takes place with ageing around the brow, jawline and neck.

Is Dermapen Skin Needling safe?
The needle only penetrates through the epidermis and does not remove it thus the skin’s natural protective barrier remains intact. The pierced epidermis rapidly heals in a matter of hours. After the procedure, the treated skin has the appearance of moderate sunburn which improves over the next 24 to 48 hours. Breathable make up can be worn immediately after the treatment. The treatment is therefore not only very effective but also very safe with very few (to no) side effects or complications.

How many Dermapen treatments do I need?
Everyone’s skin is different so we do recommend coming in for a consultation to see if this is the right treatment for you. Benefits of the Dermapen can be seen after just one treatment. It is recommended that 3- 5 treatments, spaced 4 – 6 weeks apart, are performed for maximum results. In cases where a more aggressive treatment schedule is needed such as acne scar revision, a greater number of treatments may be necessary for maximum results.

As a general guide line we recommend the following:
Rejuvenation: 4 -6 treatments (4 weeks apart) Acne Scarring: 4-6 Treatments (6 weeks apart)

Post Treatment Care
A good skin care regime is paramount in getting great results. Therefore in-between and post Dermapen treatments ensure to keep you skin hydrated and protected, we recommend using a day and night cream to repair and nourish your skin as well as a high SPF sunblock during the day to ensure you are protected against harmful UVA and UVB rays throughout the day.
Your therapist will recommend the appropriate aftercare for your skin to reach optimum results.
